Unfortunately, the culture of 'FREE' is now deeply rooted in 21st Century culture. Most of us have grown up believing that it truly IS possible to get something for nothing! It is in FEEDING this belief that game shows have become so wildly popular.

Of course, it IS possible; And that's the HOOK!

Realistically, though, how many people do you know who have won the lottery or made thousands on a game show? Probably, not many (if any!). And that's the kicker! Most of us don't win ANYTHING and yet we still keep on trying..... This is what we call the "FREE Mentality". If I just keep on trying, eventually I WILL get 'lucky'. And so, we sign up for the next 'Can't Miss', FREE Bonanza!

"Well!", you say, "If no-one makes any money, why are these FREE come-ons popping up all over the Internet?"

Originally, back in the Glory Days, traffic was king. There was a belief that advertisers would pay fortunes to be able to tap into the rich motherlode of web surfers who were eager to snap up everything in the On-line MegaMalls. No-one cared about money! The only goal was to 'capture' the prospect. Then you could be force-fed the banner ads and other promotional content and you would quickly and eagerly purchase whatever might be for sale. Massive companies (like AllAdvantage) were founded on this concept. The bubble finally burst when advertisers realised that all this expensive traffic was NOT generating sales! The FREE members just wanted their FREE money and were not really prospects at all - JUST TRAFFIC!

Things then progressed! Many savvy advertising and marketing gurus started to realise that there was some benefit to be derived from building a MASSIVE pool of prospects - provided that you could do it at minimum cost! Once you had a prospect's personal contact info, you could either sell this to the highest bidder, or you could retain the list and bombard it with your various offers. If the list was big enough, you would eventually get results. This process is called 'upselling' in marketing circles and can be exceptionally successful if done right.

Finally, we have the group of programs that ACTUALLY believe that they can make themselves and you RICH by means of a FREE program. This is only because they have bought the hype and HAVEN'T DONE THE MATH. Remember, from our first article: 0+0=0. A slight variation on this theme is the one where everyone pays a minimal amount but ALL get HUGE paydays. Again, do the math and you will see that this is just as unrealistic. If you only put in a dollar but get back $100, there are 99 people out there who put in a dollar and got back nothing. Now they have to find 9,900 more if they are to get their $100.

Hopefully, by now, you are starting to see that all that glitters is not gold! Next, let's look at the chronology of one of these 'FREE' pipedreams and find out why they always seem so successful:

Have you ever wondered why any opportunity NEEDS a pre-launch? You would think that either the program is ready to go or it isn't. In fact, the pre-launch is the phase of the entire operation that will determine whether the program will grow or fall flat on its face. Usually, the pre-launch phase is open only by personal invitation and only to 'committed' leaders or 'heavy hitters'. Ever wondered exactly WHAT a 'heavy-hitter'is?

There is a tight-knit group of 'gurus', who have generated some excitement and notoriety because they have either been wildly successful with their own marketing program or have developed huge downlines in other people's schemes. By the time the program 'officially' launches, all the 'Top' spots are already filled. The excitement of those invited into the inner circle is infectious. At launch, they are able to contact their lists and numbers skyrocket in the first few days and weeks. However, the second rung is now filled with inexperienced followers, who are going to try to market through the 'FREE'advertising channels and DO NOT have large personal lists. Recruitment slows at first and then finally stops altogether.

End results: The gurus add another successful notch to their belts. They made money, built a huge organisation and are sorry that for some unforeseeable reason, the program didn't work. They had the 'wrong' matrix payout. Or, the company stopped 'listening'. They will always find a reason that is not directly attributable to them for the failure of the program. They now move on to the next *Best Program Ever*!

Who was it that made any REAL money in the above program? You guessed it: The program owners, and a FEW heavy-hitters. To be successful yourself, you will have to do one of two things:

1. Find a program that avoids this Merry-Go-Round
   
2. Become a program owner or 'heavy-hitter'.

Why is PayPal losing SO MANY of its 'Pals'?

There is no doubt that PayPal has been and remains THE major player in on-line payment transfer services. This is borne out by its recent takeover by eBay, another on-line giant. However, there ARE some chinks appearing in PayPal's armour that bear closer inspection!

We MUST preface this discussion by stating that after several thousand payments received through PayPal, we have not found much to complain about except that we NEVER have the ability to respond to complaints EXCEPT by giving a refund. (We have only given 4 total and 3 would have been given anyway!)

Why does PayPal think it can be judge AND jury?

This, we believe, is the biggest criticism that can be levelled against PayPal. They make rules, edicts and rulings that affect the financial fortunes of merchants and users alike, with NO mechanism for ddiscussion or feedback. It is almost like they are cloistered from and non-responsive to the outside world. Eventually when an organisation behaves in this way, it is only a matter of time before they are knocked from their perch!

Why do they LOCK members' accounts without notice OR recourse?

Again, although we have not personally experienced this, we have seen organisations that were not able to pay their affiliates because PayPal suddenly froze their accounts due to some complaint or suspected infraction of their self-imposed rules!
